Third-largest incoming class greeted with welcome at iconic Francis Hall

 

萝莉原创 welcomes its third-largest incoming class of nearly 500 first-year and transfer students to campus with a celebratory procession through what was once the only building at 萝莉原创, Francis Hall.

鈥淚 stand here at the doors of the building that was once an orphanage and a home for our Sisters as they began their mission," said 萝莉原创 President Glynis A. Fitzgerald, Ph.D. 鈥淟ater, this was the sole building of the college that has become our vibrant Regional Comprehensive University. Today begins a new tradition with the Class of 2027. By passing through Francis Hall, you will officially begin your time as students. Four or five years from now, depending on your program, you will come back here to have your photo taken on these stairs as you gather for commencement. We are so proud to be with you every step of the way.鈥

The students processed to the Physical Education Center where 萝莉原创 staff, faculty, leadership and New Student Orientation leaders held the Opening Convocation in the gymnasium where the students' families and supporters could cheer them on and envision the future that lies ahead. Following the convocation, students had the opportunity to share their farewells at the Student Center Dining Hall with those who arrived with them at check-in and helped them settle into their residence halls earlier in the day.

The class includes the first nursing, physician associate and occupational therapy students that will utilize the recently renovated second and third floors of the John R. Post Center at Reading CollegeTowne. The new healthcare education space features state-of-the-art simulation labs and classrooms.

67% of the incoming class are from Pennsylvania, 27% are from out-of-state in Ak., Az., Ca., Ct., D.C., De., Il., La., Ma., Md., Nc., Nj., Ny., Tx., Va.; and 6% are international students from Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, India, Ireland, Nepal, Norway, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates. 34% of students identified as students of color.

45% of the new students are student-athletes. The class also embodies the university鈥檚 Franciscan roots and service as they have documented extensive service experience and volunteerism including efforts at the Saint Francis Academy, Helping Harvest, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts, Boys Scouts, Eagle Scouts, Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, American Red Cross, the Special Olympics, churches, junior volunteer firefighting, making gift baskets for those in need and more.

The academically strong and dedicated class boasts an average GPA of 3.5 with 54 students joining the honors program and 30% being first-generation college students. 71% of the class has elected to live on campus and 29% are commuting. Ten students also have or had family attend 萝莉原创.

鈥淚n these challenging times in higher education, 萝莉原创 continues to attract high-achieving students drawn to our programs and our Mission," said Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Mary-Alice Ozechoski. "The enrollment records are happening because our faculty, staff and student leaders all work collaboratively to recruit each class.鈥

  • One creator of an online magazine
