Dr. Lowrey began her teaching career while working on her master's degree in TESOL at American University.  She spent 15 years teaching English language courses to multilingual students at universities in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Kansas. From 2005-2007, Dr. Lowrey also taught English in a small village in Ukraine as a volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps.

She investigates how marginalized individuals have constructed and claimed access to history by composing alternative types of historical records, such as scrapbooks. She has presented at international and interdisciplinary conferences including the Conference on College Composition and Communication, Feminisms and Rhetorics, the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Historical Association, and MIRCI (now IAMAS). In her free time, Dr. Lowrey enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, Brandon, young children, Ethan and Evelyn, and her three pets: Maggie, Lesya, and Lada.
